BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the data bus CAN to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from adding keys or replacing the ECU to get around your security system because it requires a valid PIN code to begin the engine.

Unlike other immobilisers The Ghost is different from other immobilisers. Ghost does not use LED indicators or key fobs. Instead, it uses the buttons on your vehicle to allow you to enter a unique disarm sequence that you only are aware of.

Stop & Start

If you've been in a BMW or used its stop-start feature, you may have noticed the engine continues to run for about 30 seconds after you release the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to watch the vehicle for a signal emanating from the ignition key. Once it finds this, the vehicle will continue to operate. Our BMW ghost immobiliser, which is a next-generation device, does not require cutting OEM wires or to add keys or alarms that are made by an aftermarket company. It is hooked up to your BMW's CAN data network and programmed with a secure, unique PIN code that can be accessed using buttons installed in your car. This allows you to enter a specific key push sequence that isn't found present in the standard media menus, such as volume up/down or source, cruise control or aircon on, which prevents your car from starting unless the sequence is entered. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 digits which makes it extremely difficult for thieves to determine or break.

In addition, we can also add a service / valet mode to the system. This is activated when your car is in for servicing so that the Ghost remains hidden from the garage. This can be accomplished by pressing the service button on your infotainment device 5 times (the system will flash to confirm this) and when you return, the Ghost will automatically re-arm.

Service / Valet Mode

This lets you start the vehicle with your keys, but it stops the engine from restarting until the correct code is entered. This is a great option for those who need to turn their cars over to valet services or other trusted friends & family members. It also allows you to take the car to the garage for repairs, maintenance etc without worrying about it being taken away or altered by a mechanic while you wait.

Once the valet or service mode is enabled, it will block your BMW from being driven when it is first started. This stops anyone from test driving the vehicle while you are away. After you return, the vehicle will revert to normal and prevent it from being altered or stolen.

Anti-Hijack

With the advent of high-tech thieves becoming increasingly and more sophisticated the technology in security systems has to change, that's why Ghost has created this subtle and discreet immobiliser ghost. It is designed to stop thieves from acquiring a new key or replacing the ECU to start your car and then drive away. Ghost connects to your CAN network and utilizes buttons on your vehicle to generate a unique push-sequence that must be entered before your engine can begin.

This will activate the anti-hijack feature and, once activated any attempt to start the engine will be immediately stopped. Once the system detects that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators. If it is unable to find the correct code it will also stop the engine (where it is). The Anti-Hijack feature can be cancelled by entering your push sequence, or by enabling service mode, which allows your car to begin and drive, without having to enter your PIN.

The system will allow you to turn the car on by selecting drive and then quit service mode without needing your key fobs. You can also see your vehicle's location in real-time on a map using your smartphone, which is ideal for tracking your car when on the move.

The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard or within the center console. It is completely concealed and tamperproof and does not require extra wiring. The device is connected to the CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to Ethernet cable) and a unique pin code is programmed into it. The pin code must be entered before the engine starts. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system with a cloned or replaced ECU.

If your vehicle is taken away, the Ghost will go into service mode and stop all functions until you have the PIN code or the mobile application to disarm it. This feature was created to protect your vehicle from high-tech thieves who utilize relay boxes to steal it. It will even stop the thieves from being able to use their mobile phone to activate your sat nav system or mp3 player to locate your vehicle!

Ghost also can stop "Relay Style Frequency Amplification". This is the most frequent method of stealing a vehicle using a keyfob that's copied, or stolen by hacking. Ghost allows you to prevent this theft by installing a device called Secure-A Key inside your vehicle.
