It is a sad reality that a lot of dogs aren't treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. This is especially true of the smaller breeds, like Yorkies. They are small dogs that are easily overlooked and left behind when kids go out and about or forget to close a screen door. This can lead to serious injuries or even death for these tiniest creatures.

Additionally, Yorkies are prone to respiratory issues and could be easily injured by sudden noises or activity. They may not be the ideal choice for families with young children. Bringing a new dog into the family is a thrilling moment for both dogs and humans. There will be some hiccups in the beginning, particularly when it's time to housebreak and train your dog.

It is important to puppy-proof your whole house even if you have an adult Yorkie. This means placing all of your dog's toys up, storing shoes, hiding or moving cords. You could also think about using an indoor playpen for the first few days at home with a puppy to help ease the transition and give them their own space. These are fantastic for helping with separation anxiety as well.

Additionally, when taking your new puppy for walks, it's best to keep them on leash and not let them wander ahead of you. This will help them concentrate on you and keep them from chasing other animals or becoming lost. It is recommended for your dog to have a separate bed from your puppy. This will stop them from sharing the same bed and waking each other up at night.

When it comes time to interact with your new Yorkie initially, only invite your immediate family members. It can be stressful for a dog to interact with more than one person at a time. Once the dog has become familiar with its surroundings extended family and friends can be introduced to it.

Yorkies can be extremely affectionate and social, but they can also be high-strung. They tend to take pleasure in a snooze when bored. This can lead to destructive behavior, which is why it is important to channel their energy into something positive such as plenty of walks and agility training. In addition you can teach them to use a litter box and take them on short trips to the dog park.
